Summer Fun at Camp!

Jun 16, 2017 12:00 AM

Summer is upon us and if you’re not sure what to do with your kids this summer, consider a summer camp in your area. Kids need a break from the rigorous school schedule but most thrive with some continued structure. Summer camps are an excellent way to provide your kids with structured activities while also giving them plenty of independence and socialization.

Benefits of Camp for Children

Summer camp provides children and their parents with numerous benefits, including:

  • Improved social skills;
  • Build friendships;
  • Peak their natural curiosity;
  • Physically active activities;
  • Develop life-long skills and independence;
  • Child-care for parents who work.

How to Choose a Camp

When choosing the right camp for your children, there are many things to consider. The biggest decision would be what type of camp you want – sleepaway, full-day, half-day, etc. From there, be sure to look into the location of any camps you are considering. Make sure it is convenient for dropping off and picking up every day.

Camp topics

Camps should offer summer activities for kids that are engaging, exciting and run by qualified staff. The summer camp of Mad Science is a perfect example of camps that will intrigue parents and children alike! For those in the New York area, Mad Science offers a wide range of exciting camp options for children entering grades K – 6. The following topics are available:

1. Brixology

Campers will become engineers as they built different projects each day using Lego bricks. Take home projects are provided to reinforce concepts learned during the day.

2. Crazy Chemworks

In this camp, kids get to become chemists as they spend the week exploring chemical changes and other areas of chemistry.

3. Detective Academy

Kids become detectives as they use metal detectors, night vision goggles and message decoding.

4. Forensic Science

Kids get a hands-on look at crime scenes (staged of course!) as they collect and examine evidence.

5. Flight Academy

This camp will explore the science of aerodynamics along with anything that flies – birds, kites or planes.

6. Robot Engineers

Kids in this camp will spend the week learning about how robots are used in the world and have a hands-on chance to experiment with robots.

7. Robots & Reactions

This camp combines robotics and chemistry to help kids understand the potential robots. Campers will bring home science projects daily and have a complete robot built by the end of the week.

8. Junior Robotics

For younger kids interested in robotics, this camp is geared towards circuitry, mechanical science and robot building.

9. Advanced Robotics

Older kids can explore advanced robots and build their own robotic arm in this camp.

10. NASA Space Explorers

This camp explorers the Earth’s atmosphere, comets, planets, starts and more. Campers will learn about the difficulties of space travel.

11. Science in Motion

Campers will combine science and engineering while learning about the potential of machines and nature through activities such as completing an obstacle course with the use of simple machines.
